Prior to OHMT’s inception, a custom design build project was brought forward to RMD Engineering, our parent company, to create, build and install a supportive lift and gantry system in the home of an individual suffering from multiple sclerosis to help them maintain their independence, limit their fall risk, allow them to perform rehabilitative exercises while supported, and reduce the physical demands on their familial caretakers. This same technology has since been expanded and adapted for the rehabilitation of both large and small animals. It was development of the Equine Assistive Rehabilitative Lift (EARL) that led to the inception of OHMT.
These programmable lift systems can be set to adaptively compensate for a specific amount of weight, and can be built as a single point lift, or multi-axis gantry system, allowing for free access around a designated space, such as within a horse stall, or room in a house. When a fall is sensed the system will automatically catch the harnessed individual, while freedom to do exercises while weight-compensated such as squats or push ups is maintained.
While further development of these systems is still on-going, such as the development of specialized pressure sore preventative harnesses (see our Projects page), we are currently taking pre- and custom orders utilizing this technology, so contact us today if you are interested in these technologies.
